Overview

The office’s responsibilities include:

  • Assisting elected officials and candidates in completing state ethics forms and maintaining them for public inspection
  • Conducting elections for federal, state, and local offices
  • Federal, state, and local redistricting
  • Maintaining U.S. Justice Department compliance and implementing federal and state legislation, Supreme Court Decisions, and Attorney General Opinions
  • Other functions include voter registration, voter education, and service to the community where we work and live

The diverse office staff consists of 1 full-time Elections Supervisor and a varying number of part-time staff to meet fluctuating work demands and polling place staffing.

ELECTION NOTICE


This is to serve as notice that the preparation and testing of the Electronic Poll Books, Electronic Ballot Markers, Printers, and Ballot Scanners to be used in the March 12, 2024, Presidential Preference Primary/Special Election will commence on Monday, February 12, 2024, and continue daily until complete. The preparation and testing will begin at 8:30 a.m.  The testing will take place at the Meriwether County Board of Elections Equipment office located at 133 S. Court Square, Greenville, GA and The Meriwether County Board of Elections and Registration Office located at 137 S. Court Square, Greenville, GA.

 

Representatives of political parties and bodies, candidates, news media and the public are invited to observe the test.

Qualifying for the May 21, 2024, General Primary and Non-Partisan Election opens at 9:00 am Monday, March 4, 2024, and closes at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 8, 2024.  The qualifying fees are:

 

Sheriff                                                            $ 2,122.59

Probate Judge (Non-Partisan)                     $ 1,778.88

Clerk of Court                                               $ 1,778.88

Tax Commissioner                                        $ 1,778.88

Coroner                                                          $ 150.14

 

County Commissioner District 2                 $ 219.22

County Commissioner District 4                 $ 219.22

 

Board of Education District 2                      $ 435.93

Persons seeking nomination in the May 21, 2024, Democratic or Republican Primary should file a Declaration of Candidacy and Affidavit and pay the qualifying fee to the County Executive Committee at the location designated by the Party.

 

Candidates seeking election in the May 21, 2024, Non-Partisan election should file a Notice of Candidacy and pay the qualifying fee to the Meriwether County Board of Elections located at 137 S. Court Square Greenville, GA beginning at 9:00am Monday, March 4, 2024, until 12:00 noon on Friday, March 8, 2024.  Qualifying hours are Monday 9:00-5:00, Tuesday – Thursday 8:30-5:00 and Friday, 8:30-12:00 Noon.

 

Independent and Political Body Candidates for the November 5, 2024, General Election may qualify beginning Monday, March 4, 2024, at 9:00 am until 12:00 noon on Friday, March 8, 2024, by filing a notice of candidacy and paying the qualifying fee at The Meriwether County Board of Elections office located at 137 S. Court Square, Greenville, GA.  In addition to the notice of candidacy a nomination Petition will be due no earlier than 9:00 am, June 24, 2024, and no later than July 9, 2024, at 12:00 Noon.

 

Forms of payment accepted are cash, check, or money order.

The Meriwether County Democratic Committee will conduct qualifying applications for the upcoming election 2024. The location will be 915 R. D. Hill Street, Greenville, GA. The time will be 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM, March 4th (Monday) through March 7th (Thursday).  On Friday, March 8, 9:00am until 12 noon.  Contact Number 706 672 4243.

Advance Voting will take place at the Meriwether County board of elections and registration office located at 137 S. Court square Greenville, GA.  

The last day to accept an absentee ballot application for mail is Friday, March 1, 2024.
